Birdsfoot Farm has been raising organically grown vegetables since 1972. Dulli Tengeler currently manages the farm. Birdsfoot grows a large amount of garlic, mixed salad greens, celeriac, and sunchokes, sold locally and regionally. Birdsfoot hosts an annual Garlic Festival, runs a farm internship program, and offers a community supported agriculture (CSA) with other direct marketing efforts.

Ann and Brian Bennett’s Bittersweet Farm has been in operation at their current location for the past eight years. Along with certified organic vegetables and herbs, they grow unique crops such as pea and sunflower sprouts out of their greenhouse. They have experimented with some organic grains, in particular wheat and sell a variety of livestock, including domestic turkeys, chickens and a rare breed of heritage purebred Tamworth hogs. Along with the co-op they sell to many local outlets including the Canton and Ogdensburg Farmers Markets.

Harry has been in the bee business on and off for the past 20 years. Along with honey and maple sales direct from his home, he collects and sells beeswax to area churches for candle making.

Andy Soutar and Sue Rau grow a variety of vegetables and raise Highland Cattle at their farm. Drumlin’s End consists of 200 acres of woods, wetland, pasture and cropland. Andy and Sue grow many unusual potato varieties and have been certified organic for over 15 years. Their products have been marketed both regionally and locally.

Tim and Kathy Fuller have been tending gardens and animals at their Canton farm for over 15 years. They now have an eye toward commercial production and are growing over 3 acres of mixed vegetables. Some of their crops include tomatoes, squash, and beans, all sold through local markets.

Bob and Alice Haig have been growing produce in St. Lawrence County for over 40 years. They grow many different vegetables such as peppers, melons, and pumpkins and ornamentals. They also utilize greenhouses and have their own farm stand.

Dan and Megan Kent have been using sustainable production practices to grow mixed vegetables for many local markets including their community supported agriculture (CSA) program. They manage about five acres for cash crops and do much of their fieldwork with horses.
Kingston’s Roadside Stand

Don and Linda Kingston manage about forty-five acres of farmland for fruit & vegetable production. In addition to mainstays such as tomatoes and cucumbers, they care for approximately 8,000 strawberry plants. Their produce can be found at many local outlets in addition to their roadside stand.

Raquette River Bison

Over 100 bison can be seen roaming the fields at Raquette River Bison. Dale and Mary Ellen Healey manage over 150 acres and have been farming in St. Lawrence Co. since 1992. Their bison meat is grass fed, steroid free, USDA inspected, and available locally.
Rivendale Farm

Lynda Bage has been farming in St. Lawrence Co. for about 15 years and began growing vegetables commercially two years ago. Greens, melons, cucumbers, and herbs are current features at Rivendale Farm. A 26′x48′ greenhouse was recently built to help supply fresh vegetables to local markets over a longer season.
Squeak Creek Honey Co.

Mark Berninghausen’s Squeak Creek Honey Co. has been operating in St. Lawrence County since 1986. As many as 800 beehives are managed by Mark for honey and cut honeycomb. These products are available locally and regionally. Squeak Creek’s beehives are also used to help pollinate apples and other crops both locally and out of state.

Richard Downs has been raising bison for about 10 years and comes from a family that has been actively farming in St. Lawrence Co. since 1928. Stoney Knoll Bison consists of 95 acres of land and currently has about 20 bison being produced for the local market.
